Alexis Arquette died at age 47

Alexis Arquette, the transgender actress and advocate, has died at age 47. The sister of the famous Arquette acting family died Sunday, September 11 with her siblings surrounding her, according to People. No cause of death was given. Arquette’s death was announced by her brother, Richmond, on Facebook. In his post, Richmond Arquette revealed that the David Bowie song “Starman” played when Alexis passed, as per her request.

Arquette’s death was announced by her brother, Richmond, on Facebook. In his post, Richmond Arquette revealed that the David Bowie song “Starman” played when Alexis passed, as per her request. Arquette, who was born Robert, was also the sister of actors David Arquette, Rosanna Arquette and Patricia Arquette.

Patricia Arquette tweeted that the iconic Bowie song played as her sibling was “breaking through the veil,” and she also dedicated T. Rex’s “Cosmic Dancer” to her “first best friend.”

Actor David Arquette called his late sibling his “hero for eternity.”

According to Entertainment Tonight, the Arquette siblings, including Rosanna, released a statement on Alexis’ passing. In the statement, the family listed some of the late star’s most memorable movie, including Last Exit to Brooklyn, Pulp Fiction, The Bride of Chucky, and The Wedding Singer. The famous family also revealed that their late sibling’s career was cut short due to her decision to “live her truth and her life as a transgender woman.”

“Despite the fact that there are few parts for trans actors, she refused to play roles that were demeaning or stereotypical. She was a vanguard in the fight for understanding and acceptance for all trans people,” the Arquette siblings said.

“Alexis was born as Robert, our brother. We loved him the moment he arrived. But he came in as more than a sibling — he came as our great teacher. As she transitioned into being a woman, she taught us tolerance and acceptance. As she moved through her process, she became our sister, teaching us what real love is.”

The Arquette siblings also revealed that in the days leading to her death, their sister told them she was “already visiting the other side, and that where she was going, there was only one gender. That on the other side, we are free from all of the things that separate us in this life, and that we are all one.”

“She passed away surrounded by love. We held her and sang her David Bowie’s ‘Starman’ as she punched through the veil to the other side. We washed her body in rose petals and surrounded her with flowers.”

The siblings added that their late sister “always had to do everything first. She left before we were ready to let her go.”

Last year, Patricia Arquette talked about her sibling’s difficult decision to begin her transition more than 20 years ago.

Earlier this year, David Arquette appeared on Kocktails With Khloe and revealed that his sibling said she refused to continue referring to herself as transgender after Caitlyn Jenner transitioned from a man to a woman. Alexis reportedly told David that she wanted to be called “gender suspicious” instead.

“After Caitlyn had her transition, she’s like, ‘I’m not transgender anymore,'” David explained. “I said, ‘You’re my sister and brother,’ and she said, ‘It depends on how I’m dressed.’ I think because of Caitlyn she’s like, ‘I did that already. Now let’s take it to the next level.'”

In addition to the Arquette siblings, several of Arquette’s friends posted reaction on social media upon learning of her sudden death, including David Arquette’s ex-wife, Courteney Cox, and former Culture Club frontman Boy George, who was the inspiration for the late star’s Wedding Singer character.
